What Ottawa is Talking About – 29 October 2021

▪️“Are they treating me like I’m a Taliban? You can write that in the paper. Why are they treating me like this? They’re treating me like I came from Mars. What did I do wrong to these people?” This was the alternate choice for today's Quote of the Day. The speaker, Tony Shahrasebi, is livid that the City has delayed approving a zoning application for his Catherine Street project because Shahrasebi’s Somerset House issues are still open. Somerset House is a partially collapsed building on Somerset and Bank Street that has been left as an eyesore since 2007. In this case, the City thinks that by refusing to consider one project, they can bring the other to the table. [Ottawa Citizen]

▪️Local mom and pop business Shopify says that growth has returned to normal. The website shopping cart company had seen their revenue nearly double during the first year of the pandemic but it has now dropped to the merely tremendously lucrative. The period July to September this year brought in US $1.1 billion in income.  [Ottawa Citizen]
