Number: $10,000,000. The amount that the Federal Government wants to avoid paying the City of Ottawa yearly under new property tax rules. The Federal Government voluntarily makes payments in lieu of property taxes, since it is otherwise exempt. But after a reduction in business taxes by the Province, the Feds want to pay calculate their shadow taxes under the new rates. [Ottawa Citizen]

Ottawans of the Day: Corey Ellis and Alida Burke. The two have invented a hydroponic system called The Growcer which makes it easy for organizations to grow fresh vegatables for their cafeterias. Their company just won $150,000 at this year’s SheBoot pitchfest, an event to promote female-led start-ups. [Ottawa Business Journal] [The Growcer]
