Live Here – 12 July 2021

As Canada’s capital’s housing market increasingly shuts out eager buyers, there’s evidence that many are taking their purchasing power north of the Ottawa River to Gatineau. In 2020, the number of homes in Gatineau that were purchased by Ottawans doubled.

While prices are lower in Gatineau, Quebec personal tax is higher. There’s also the matter of the commute: if you work in Ottawa but live in Gatineau you’ll be contending with the reportedly heavy traffic on the bridges spanning the Ottawa River. You’ll also benefit from owning a car, as inter-provincial public transit can be problematic.

So, what can you get for your money? We take a look at some properties that have recently come on the market.
