Food + Drink Update – 7 July 2021

▪️Dominion City’s new Picnic Blanket is a saison loaded with rhubarb and raspberry flavours, and it’s a pleasing pink hue. 

▪️Over at Beau’s Feed the Jukebox Milkshake IPA is another limited time summer speech, and the brewery claims it’s a “velvety smooth treat that will razz your berries!” It’s flavoured with citrus, tropical fruit, and red berries. 

▪️Tomorrow sees the launch of new soft serve flavour Space Jam from Merry Dairy. It’s a decadent frozen treat of dark chocolate ice cream, white chocolate ganache, and milk chocolate chunks. To try it, head to the original Merry Dairy Truck at 102 Fairmont or order online for next day delivery within Ottawa. 

▪️Today’s damp squib of a forecast has forced Whiprsnapr to move the date of tonight’s Drag Bingo to next Wednesday July 14th. If you have a reservation fir tonight you’re asked to confirm with the brewery if you can attend next Wednesday evening instead. Call 613-596-9882 

▪️Big news from The Artery Community Roasters, who provide employment and work experience for people living with disabilities. Their Los Ortega Blend is now on drip from Wednesday to Saturday 8:00am to 8:00pm at Almanac Mill and Bakery, 9-5510 Canotek Road in Gloucester. You can also purchase bags of Los Ortega, Pink Bourbon Barrel, and Augusto’s Gusto Blends. When you visit, you can also pick up some of Almanac’s fresh milled heritage flours and baked goods. 

▪️If you missed taco Tuesday last night, head to Ola Cocina Taqueria (62 Barrette Street), which is now open for lunch on Wednesdays. Ignore the grey skies and tuck into a Cod Fish taco with house picked cabbage and mango salsa, or a Spicy Fried Chicken taco with charred corn pico, quest fresco, and chipotle maple syrup. Visit in person or order for delivery or takeout. 

▪️Merivale Fish’s casual restaurant the Seafood Grill is open for lunch Tuesday to Saturday (and on Sundays from 3:00pm to 8:00pm), with a classics-packed menu and new favourites like Sweet & Spicy Smelts. 

▪️Meatings dine-in brunch resumes this Sunday, July 11th, from 11:00am to 3:00pm and runs every Sunday after. Expect brunch classics with lashings of smoked brisket, pulled pork, smoked ham, bacon, and non-barbecue things like eggs and home fries. Oh, and cocktails. 5380 Canotek Road.
