Coronavirus Update – 28 January 2022
▪️City’s Planning Committee approves demolition of five low-rent apartment buildings. Théberge Homes plans to raze the buildings at the curve of Riverside Drive in Lowertown and construct a 25 storey building. Some of the current flats rent at $800 per month. In return for evicting the tenants, the developer agreed to pay their moving costs and to pay the difference in rent in a new apartment for one year. [CBC]
▪️The Planning Committee also approved a two-year extension to a pay parking lot behind Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica. The Catholic Archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall demolished two heritage buildings in 2005, and has since run its public parking lot on a temporary basis. [Ottawa Citizen]
▪️Alta Vista ward councillor Jean Cloutier will not run again for his seat in October’s election. Cloutier has represented Alta Vista since 2014. [Ottawa Citizen]
