What Ottawa is talking about
🛻 Emergencies Act
- Parliament is over one year late in releasing its report on the use of the Emergencies Act. The committee of Members of Parliament and Senators say that the translation of the report and its thousands of pages of documentation is the hold up and could possibly take years. (Anja Karadeglija in The Canadian Press)
💰 Canada Revenue Agency
- The Canada Revenue Agency confirms that it will require employees to work in the office three days per week. The Treasury Board previously announced a similar policy but the Agency did not necessarily have to follow the same policy. The Union of Taxation Employees says it is furious and accuses the Agency of not respecting the recently signed labour agreement. (Catherine Morrison in the Ottawa Citizen)
🚨 Traffic Enforcement
- The Ottawa Police Service says it is initiating a new traffic enforcement system. The new scheme would be individualized to each area, after consulting with community leaders and City Councillors for priorities of speeding, stunt driving, impaired driving, noise, and residential intersection compliance. (Ottawa Citizen)
🎭 The Cappies
- The nominees for excellence in secondary school drama have been announced. Not only do The Cappies recognize excellence in stage, music, sets, props, costumes, and make-up but also for criticism. There are way too many nominees to list here. Winners will be announced at the National Arts Centre June 2. (Ottawa Citizen)
