What Ottawa is talking about – 7 July 2021

▪️The City wants 600 homes to be retrofitted for better energy use. The ‘Better Homes’ programme has a $16 million war chest from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities to grant $20,000 retrofits in Ottawa, to be paid over 20 years from property taxes. The City will market the programme first to older rowhouses and houses near downtown. [CBC] [Better Homes]

▪️The Finance Committee usually doesn't many presentations but last night 19 people spoke, mostly to ask for cutbacks to the police.  The City is looking at raising OC Transpo fares 2.5 per cent and 4.86 per cent on water bills. [Ottawa Citizen]

▪️Ottawa home prices are dropping, if only by two per cent. There are more houses for sale, creating a downward push on prices. The average sale price in Ottawa last month was $726,000, down from $759,000 in June. [Ottawa Citizen]

▪️The RedBlacks won't be joining the XFL after allThe Canadian Football League had entered into merger talks with the XFL, co-owned by actor Dwayne 'The Rock’ Johnson, earlier in the year. Those talks are now off. [Ottawa Sun]
